Objectives and competences

To familiarize students with the economic importance of technical maintenance and care of agricultural machinery. Competences: • ability to recognize the professional maintenance of agricultural machinery in practice

Content (Syllabus outline)

• importance of selection and maintenance of agricultural machines • required equipment for current maintenance of agricultural machines • servicing-preventive maintenance • daily and weekly technical maintenance of tractors • diagnostics • maintenance and servicing of driving unit and attachment machines • engine maintenance • tribological requirements for units in agriculture • theory of lubrication, oil and grease; their physical, chemical and mechanical properties • recycling and ecological problems of oil, tyres, plastic materials, storage batteries, etc. • servicing workshops and equipment, spare parts • safety at work with agricultural machinery • ergonomics • renewable sources of energy (biodiesel fuel, bio-gas, biomass, solar and geothermal energy, hydro energy, wind energy, hydrogen, etc.) • technical maintenance aspects affecting the machine service life

Learning and teaching methods

• lectures: the students become familiar with theoretic contents of the subject. • seminars: the students deepen the theoretic knowledge and becomes familiar with application possibilities.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: • construction of engineering materials, • the influence of microstructure on their properties and technologies for changing their properties and forming the products Transferable/Key Skills and other attributes: Students are capable of selecting the adequate maintenance of agricultural machinery, select suitable lubricants and have a high degree of ecological consciousness.
