Objectives and competences

The objective of the course is to acquaint students with: • the multi functionality of grasslands in the agroecosystem and in society, • grassland plants from a forage production point of view, • sustainable management technologies for grassland and field forage production, • trends in the production of forage in Slovenia and in the world, • and effects of forage production on the environment. Students' competencies are defined by the content of the subject.

• grasslands and its role in ecosystems • grassland multifunctionality • grassland plants • forage quality • sustainable grassland management • grassland management and grassland biodiversity conservation • field forage production • modern trends in grassland management and forage production in Europe and in the world

Learning and teaching methods

lectures, practical work in laboratory, plant collection fields, and on grassland fields

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: After the successful completion of the exam students should be able to: • recognize, understand and justify the multifunctionality of grasslands in the agroecosystem and society, • recognize and apply the quality of meadow plants for forage, • from the point of view of environmental protection, critically evaluated different technologies of forage production, apply them in practice from the point of view of animals, plants and the environment and, • and plan grassland and field forage production and conservation.
