Objectives and competences

The basic goal is to familiarize students with structural engineering of machinery, the practical parameters for choosing them and about working properly with them in practice. Competences: • the ability to correctly select, use and adjust the machines in the plantation for most efficiency • ability to identify and solve problems in the field

Content (Syllabus outline)

fundamentals of machine implementation , characteristics of modern plantations tractors in horticulture and viticulture: mechanics of driving, models and technical characteristics, ecological view on working with tractors, criteria for selecting tractors Machines for soil preparation and tillage: deep ploughing, basic tillage and soil cultivation Methods and machines for chemical plantating Protection: methods for application of chemical substances, application of sprinkles, powders, granulations, realization of deposition on plants, construction characteristics of machines, sprayers, air sprayers, preparation and processing of chemical protection machines for keeping of plantation form and shape: technical importance of grass coverage, different ways and machines of grass maintenance, machines for creating plant form, fertilizer spreaders machines and equipment for picking up of yield machines and equipment for tree and vine nursery water accumulation, primary pipes systems and equipment for irrigation of plantation working capacity of machines and the consumption of working hours economics of machine application expected future development of machines in horticulture and viticulture

Learning and teaching methods

Learning consists of: • ‘Ex catedra’ lessons about theoretical fundamentals of machines and their technical and exploitation characteristics • practical presentation of machines and preparation for working with them, estimation of technical parameters, economical effectiveness and possible impact on the environment • practical presentation of machines working ‘in situ’ • practical experiences with a machine's condition and types of application in horticulture and viticulture production in the Slovene area

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: Students acquire basic starting points for the correct selection and use of machinery and equipment in different working conditions of fruit and grape production.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

With the gained knowledge the students will understand the importance of machine application in horticulture and viticulture on the basis of ecological and economical effects
