Objectives and competences

Recognition of importance and effects of organic agriculture in different European countries – sustainable issues (environment, economy and society. Information’s on rules and legal bases of organic agriculture and practical examples of good agricultural practices in organic farming from different countries. Review of current research projects and teaching activities of different European universities.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Comparison of standards and legislation of organic agriculture (IFOAM, EU, within EU). Role of organic agriculture for achieving sustainable development goals. Situation of organic production, processing and markets in different European countries. Organic agriculture in Euorpean Universities: Current research projects, teaching activities.

Learning and teaching methods

Lectures, e-learning tools, on-line videoconferences, discussions, case study and guided group work with the participants

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: - Students know position of organic agriculture in common agriculture policy in EU and wider. - Students can summarize specifics of organic agriculture for achieving sustainable development goals. - Student are able to find relevant legislation and rules. - Students understand, analyse and evaluate the situation of organic agriculture in different European countries. - Students are able to compare situation in organic agriculture among countries. - Students are able to discuss and evaluate standards of organic agriculture.
