Objectives and competences

Learning objectives: Improving skills in demand management. Improving skills in inventory management. Presenting methods and techniques in supply chain planning. Providing students with a solid understanding of important techniques and components associated with the integrated supply chain planning, e.g. core techniques, tools and best practices. Competences: Student can assess the importance of factors, which have an influence to planning processes. Student is able to reorganize planning processes in the supply chain. Student can take a responsibility for changes made in planning in supply chain area.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Demand management process. Push/pull planning. Parameters to inventory management. Establishes safety stock. Optimize Distribution Requirements Planning (DRP). Stock obsolescence and redundancy. Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process. Functionalities of inventory optimisation tools. Advanced Planning Systems (APS). Tutorials: Implements collaborative forecasting. Optimizes planning parameters to fine tune inventory holding. Adapting inventory holding taking into account product cycle. Identifies causes for stock obsolescence and redundancy and propose ways for minimising this. Runs the demand management, supply management and the scenario analysis of the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process. Implements Vendor Management Inventory (VMI) process. Develops Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relative to inventory management. Selects and implements Advanced Planning Systems (APS).

Learning and teaching methods

• Lectures: Students understand the theoretical frameworks of the course. Part of the lecture course is in a classroom while the rest is in the form of e-learning (e-lectures may be given via video-conferencing or with the help of specially designed e-material in a virtual electronic learning environment) • Tutorials: Students enhance their theoretical knowledge and are able to apply it. Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and Understanding: Student knows relationships between planning and execution in supply chain. Student knows relationships inside supply chain planning. Student knows methods and techniques of supply chain planning. Student has a solid understanding of integrated business planning, considering challenges and benefits. Student understands the need for an S&OP cycle in a company. Student has a cross-functional understanding of supply chain management to be used in a particular business.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Transferable/Key Skills and other attributes: Student is able to improve planning area in supply chain using contemporary methods and techniques. Student can manage a team responsible for improving planning in supply chain. Student is able to self-improvement in area of planning in supply chain. Student is capable to apply principles in order to success of an S&OP process.
