Objectives and competences

1. To introduce the students with basic concepts of descriptive and inference statistics, 2. To develop ability of logical thinking, 3. To develop ability of constructive and systematic approach to solve actual statistical problems in organizations, 4. To achieve ability of autonomous use of basic statistical functions in Excel and SPSS.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Basic quantitative methods which are applicable to actual statistical problems in an organization. Main chapters: Basic concepts of data organization Fundamentals of descriptive statistics Fundamentals of combinatorics and probability Basic probability distributions (discrete and continuous) Fundamentals of sampling Interval estimation (mean, differences between means, proportion) Hypothesis testing (mean, differences between means, proportion) ?^2- test Linear correlation Linear regression Time series with linear trend

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Students will be: • able to explain the fundamental concepts of descriptive statistics in real cases, • able to apply the fundamental methods of inference statistics in real cases, • able to analyze data and phenomena in an organization using fundamental methods of descriptive and inference statistics, • familiar with basic statistical functions in Excel and SPSS.
