Objectives and competences

The student will: • understand the characteristics of core terminology in sustainable development (sustainable development, aims of sustainable development, sustainable business in sustainable development, social responsibility, triple outcome, product life expectancy…), • attain an overview of the regulations, guidelines, and standards which help access the influence on the environment, the society and sustainable business, • recognise the importance of sustainable development in corporations and society, • understand the importance of difficult decision making in sustainable business and in organisations’ values for achieving sustainable development, • recognise key steps for a sustainable development strategy design, • understand important internal and external factors (economic, environmental, social) and risks, which influence sustainable business with basic evaluation, • research the challenges in sustainable corporate governing and their reports General competences: • improved critical opinion, • usage of written sources and informational-communicative technology whilst researching examples of good practices. Subject specific competences: • understanding sustainability and sustainable corporate governing, • knowledge of standards and regulations in sustainable corporate governing, • understanding of environmental, social, and economic factors and risks, which influence corporate governing, • understanding the concept of sustainability reports.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Knowledge and understanding of: At the end of the course, the students will be able to: • argue the benefits of sustainable business in organisations, • critically access the environmental, social, and economic factors and risks, which influence sustainable business, • analyse how organisations face sustainability challenges and will be able to give a performance assessment based on the sustainable business implementation success, • design a sustainable strategy frame for an organisation.
