Objectives and competences

Student will be able to: • Recognize the ways how to estimate the impacts of the organization on the environment • To be aware of the importance of environmental policy and will be able to partcipate in the process of introduction of environmental systems into organization • Understand the main sources of environmental pollution • significance of the Recognize the main threats of unresponsible relation to the environment

Content (Syllabus outline)

Presentation of all kinds of anthropogenic environmental pollution and possibilities of pollution minimization: 1. Presentation of modern waste management concepts 2. Solid waste: classification, collection, transformation, reuse, hazardous waste, organic waste 3. Waste waters and problems of water pollution (classification, waste water treatment priciples, water footprint) 4. Gaseous emissions and problems of atmospheric pollution (classical pollutants and their impact on air quality, greenhouse gases and their impact on global warming, global warming potential, carbon footprint calculation 5. Pollution generated by emissions of energy (ionizing and non-ionizing radiation) 6. Sustainable development 7. Environmental management systems (introdu SIST ISO 14001 and EMAS) 8. The role of environmental protection for activities of company 9. reviewReview of environmental legislation

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: Capability of cooperation or leading of environmental projects. At the end of the course students will be able to: • Describe the modern waste treatment principles and explain the hierarchy of waste treatment procedures • correctly classificate the waste species • recognize the categories of waste which belong to hazardous waste • explain the principles of determination of waste water pollution degree • distinguish between conventional air pollutants and greenhouse gases • describe the sources and consequences of the greenhouse effect • explain the main features of environmental management systems (SIST ISO 14001, EMAS) and their benefits for the organization • indicate the main legislative acts related to the environmental topics

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- Comprehension of environmental protection issues and knowledge of environmental legislation which is necessary for the management of production processes - Capability of cooperation or leading of environmental projects.
