Objectives and competences

Objectives 1. to comprehend basics in disciplines of computer science and informatics with research aim, 2. to analyse the structure of information system in organization, 3. to comprehend the programming constructs and languages, 4. to use office packages in different OS and to select data from one database table, 5. to comprehend and apply the fundamentals of information system security. Competences 1. tracking the flow of simple programs in C ++, Java, R and PHP programming languages, and the use of loops and objects in programming 2. use the structured query language SQL on one relational table 3. differentiating the capabilities of the components in computer system and network devices 4. use of office tools in a new contexts

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. digital technologies and society, 2. overview: history and definitions in computer science and informatics, 3. hardware: components, functions, performance 4. Von Neuman and Turing machine, assembly language, processor simulation, 5. computer networks: components, functions, performance, 6. basics of operating systems and architecture 7. database management systems, 8. programming languages: compilers, interpreters, program development, programming constructs, algorithms on examples, 9. introduction to object programming, 10. information system in organization: solutions and tools, 11. information system security, ethics and cyber criminal, 12. overview of trends in the field of computer science and informatics.

Learning and teaching methods

• lectures and assignments, • lab practice in computer classroom, • presentation of solved assignments

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: • comprehension of a) basic definitions and ideas in computer science and informatics, b) components, functions and performance of computer system and networks, • comprehension of programming constructs and office tools, • comprehension of the structure of information system, • understanding the querying in one database table, • understanding of practical procedures in information system security assurance.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

- distinguishing the performance of the components in computer system and network, - tracking the program, using the loops and objects in programming, - using the office tools in new context, - querying one table with SQL, - communicating with experts in information systems.
