Objectives and competences

The student will: • know the most important theoretical concepts of entrepreneurship; • understand the importance of family entrepreneurship; • be able to distinguish between business and family in the context of family entrepreneurship; • be able to distinguish between types of family businesses; • know the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses; • understand the relationships between employees in family businesses; • know the role of conflicts in the family business; • know the challenges of family businesses; • knew and understood internal entrepreneurship; • understand the role of succession in family businesses; • Know the importance of successful succession for family businesses; • Know and understand good and bad practices in family businesses.

1. Introduction to entrepreneurship: concept, definition and development; 2. Definition and the meaning of family entrepreneurship; 3. Business and family; 4. Properties and sorts of family enterprises; 5. Strenghts and weaknesses of family enterprises; 6. Relationships among employees in family enteprises; 7. Conflicts among employees in family enterprises; 8. Challenges in family enterprises 9. Intrapreneurship; 10. Legacy in family enterprises; 11. Good and bad practices in family enterprises. 12. Good and bad practices in family enterprises.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be able to: • state and describe theoretical concepts of family entrepreneurship; • distinguish between types of family businesses; • distinguish the advantages and disadvantages of family businesses; • identify relationships between employees in family businesses; • compose or prepare a successful succession plan for family businesses; • identify the challenges of family businesses.
