Objectives and competences

The student will: • know the main concepts in the field of psychology, • know the main concepts related to the field of psychology and will understand the role of psychology in relation to the field of human resources, • be acquainted with theories related to mental phenomena, behavior, perceptual processes and personality in the field of human resources, • acquire skills of effective time and conflict management, • know how to motivate and reward employees, • be familiar with the field of stress and its management, and learn about modern trends in psychology. Competences: Understanding the main concepts in the field of personnel psychology. Ability to critically verify information and anticipate solutions and consequences. Ability to make critical and self-critical judgments. Ability to effectively organize time, resolve conflicts, stress. Ability to effectively motivate and reward employees. Ability to search for new facts, their interpretation and integration into the study process. Ability to interdisciplinary integration of knowledge of psychology and personnel management.

Content (Syllabus outline)

1. Psychology evolution – main concepts through time 2. Basic and applied subfields of psychology 3. Sensation and perception 4. Time and conflict management 5. Management styles (i.e. Autocratic leaders, Democratic leaders, Laissez – faire leaders, Person – task leadership orientation) and team work 6. Motivation and rewarding of employees 7. Emotional intelligence and personality 8. Modern trends in psychology

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

1) Students will be able to define the main concepts in the field of personnel psychology. 2) Students will understand the role of psychology in the field of human resources. 3) Students will be able to distinguish between different types of stress, conflicts and will be able to choose effective strategies for coping with stress and conflict. 4) Students will be able to choose and distinguish between different styles of personnel management. 5) Students will know and choose different ways of motivating and rewarding staff. 6) Students will be able to define emotional intelligence and distinguish between different personality characteristics of employees. 7) Students will be able to identify modern trends in psychology.
