Objectives and competences
Objectives:
• To present political dimention of tourism and open athical issues in tourism planning and managament of tourism. To analyze tourism as social phenomenon from different political aspects.
Competences:
• Students form critical opinion on tourism as social phenomenon and understand wider impacts of tourism on society and individuals. Students plan and evaluate sustainable tourism policy.
Content (Syllabus outline)
• basic definitions and concepts in political science,
• various aspects of political dimension,
• political processes and tourism,
• the role of public authorities at the local, regional, national and supranational level in tourism
• tourism policy as developmental policy and policy planning,
• political leadership, participation and stakeholders for sustainable development of tourist destinations,
• tourism as power in the context of diplomacy and neo-colonialism,
• ethics in tourism and social responsibility,
• politics as tourist travel motive.

Students:
• Understand and use basic definitions and concepts of political science,

• Analyze stakeholeders in tourism planning and management,
• Structure elements of tourism strategy,
• Evaluate ethical dilemmas in tourism development.

Seminar work: outline of tourism policy analysis 30%
Active work in seminars: assignments and presentations 30%
Each part of the assessment must be positive in order for the final grade to be positive.
