Objectives and competences

- To give students a broad and detailed knowledge of criminal justice and security studies disciplines to understand the phenomena and skills connections.

Content (Syllabus outline)

LAW - Understand of law, general legal institutes and basic institutions of legal system, knowing of main legal-research methods for security studies. - Detailed knowledge of criminal legal institutes and criminal sanctions. NATIONAL SECURITY AND POLICING - The National Security Policy Process. - Development analysis of policing in the world, with a special focus on Central and Eastern Europe and substantive differences between the strategies of policing in modern society. CRIMINOLOGY - Contemporary criminological theory. - An overview of Slovene criminological research. CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION - Good practices, challenges and failures in criminal investigation, and the evaluation of evidence. - Serious forms of financial and organised crime, corruption and money laundering. INFORMATION SECURITY - Contemporary Information security theory. - Review of modern Information and Cyber security developments, methods and guidelines by understanding the different types of cybercrime.

Learning and teaching methods

- The course will consist of tutorial and individual consultations with the professors. - Students engage in authentic online activities and get to know the issues abroad. - Teaching and learning take place through didactic use of information and communication technology.

- The course introduces students to major theoretical and practical concepts of criminal justice and security studies.

- The course enables students to develop skills and knowledge for understanding of causes and patterns of crime as well as national and international crime control policies, strategies and practices. - Ability to interculturally communicate and understand cultural differences in the perception of the field.
