Objectives and competences

Students gain basic knowledge of the criminal investigation, criminal investigation tactics, technics and methodology. They learn to create versions and to plan a criminal investigation. They gain knowledge about the different stages of the investigation and the particularities of detecting, investigating and proving of selected forms of crime in Slovenia, abroad and in cyberspace.

• Definition and history of criminal investigation • Criminal investigation principles • Crime detection • Criminal investigation tactics • Planning and versions • Crime indications • Crime scene investigation • The use of police dog at crime scene investigation • Reconstruction and experiment • Gathering information and interrogation • Communication in cyberspace • The house and personal search • The seizure and investigation of electronic devices • Criminal investigation technics • Collection of different traces • Criminal investigation methodology • Detection, investigation and proving of different forms of crime: o Murders o Rapes o Child sexual abuse o Property offences o Computer crime o Criminal offences in cyberspace

Learning and teaching methods

The course will consist of lectures, laboratoy work, discussions, study visits and group work.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Students gain knowledge of the activities, related to detection, investigation and proving of criminal offences. They learn to analyse and to implement new knowledge into Slovenian practice. They can compare different situations and problems of selected forms of crime.

Prerequisits

Previous knowledge of criminal law and criminal procedural law are needed.
