Objectives and competences

The student will: Learn and understand the meaning of spiritual care, learn fundamental spiritual tools for assessing spiritual needs, and learn different approaches to provide spiritual needs in nursing and health care.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Understanding spirituality and the importance of spiritual care in healthcare, nursing care nad midwifery. • Understanding the concept of spirituality. • Assessment and identification of spiritual care needs. • Using assessment tools for spiritual needs in nursing and midwifery care. • Providing spiritual care in nursing care/midwifery. • Consequenceses of unmeet spiritual needs.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

After the course the students will be able to: • explain the importance of spiritual care in health care, nursing care, and midwifery, • define the concept of spiritual care, • select and correctly use the appropriate tool to assess the spiritual needs of patients at different stages of life and at different ages, • select (demonstrate) appropriate nursing interventions to meet the spiritual needs of patients at different stages of life.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Communication skills: After the course, the students will: - be able to oral and written expression, and argument. Problem solving: After the course, the students will be able to critically reflect on the current situation and evaluate their own work.
