Objectives and competences

The student will get familiar with vital human functional abilities and adjustments for workload in health. He/she will get familiar with the correct use of ergonomic and technical tools for safety nursing care and safety of healthcare professionals.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Ergonomics as a wide science for a friendly environment to humans. • Functional anatomy and human physiology • Physical influences of the environment on the human body (temperature, sound, and hearing, light and vision, radiation). • Biophysical basis of economics (statics, dynamics in body stability, functional load of muscular-skeletal system). • Workload and work-related health problems in health care. • Ergonomic rules of sitting and standing posture of members of health care. • Ergonomic evaluation of working environment and planning of working place in health care. • Standards of usage of ergonomic and technical tools in health care. • Ergonomic rules of sitting and standing posture of members of health care.

Learning and teaching methods

• Lectures. • Seminar with demonstrations. • Teamwork and individual work. • Demonstration of ergonomic models and tools.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

After completing this course student will: • Have knowledge about the basics, rules, and principles of ergonomics. • Have knowledge of functional anatomy and human physiology. • Have knowledge about the health problems of members of the health team. • Know how to plan an ergonomic working environment in health care. • Know how to properly handle the load in health care. • Know the environmental impacts on the workplace in health care. • Have knowledge about the bio-mechanic and physical basis of ergonomics. • Have knowledge about ergonomic rules of a sitting and standing posture and a load of healthcare team members • Know how to properly use ergonomic and technical tools in working with a patient.

• Conquered knowledge about the usage of ergonomic and technical tools in practical examples.
