Objectives and competences

Student will be able: - To recognize the importance and function of public health in Slovenia and in the world. - To acquire general characteristics of microorganisms especially those pathogenic to humans, processes of cleaning, desinfetion, sterilisation, qualitative care for textiles in hospital laundries, and ecological procedures for cleaning and analysis of hospital sewage water for tient`s and health care provider`s safety

Content (Syllabus outline)

- Approach how to solve problems concerning public health (development of public health as medical science, health and sickness determinant, working strategy in the field of public health, main problems in public health). - Personal hygiene, hygiene of nutrition, communal hygiene. - General epidemiology (epidemiological methods), epidemiology of infectious diseases (epidemiologically important infectuous diseases, imuno and chemoprophylaxis), nosocomial infections. - Pandemy COVID 19. - Basic characteristics of microorganisms - Prevention of growth and decontamination of microorganisms - Transmission of pathogenic microorganisms - Antibiotic resistance - Natural and acquired human resistance against microorganisms - Etiology of skin infections - Etiology of respiratory tract infections - Etiology of gastrointestinal tract infections - Etiology of urogenital tract infections - Etiology of central nervous system infections - Principle of microbiological diagnostic techniques - Sampling methods in microbiology and transport of samples - Cleaning, disinfection, sterilisation. - Definition of textiles care, physical and chemical basics of washing, structure of washing detergents, management of hospital laundry room, qualitative parameters of washing. - Definition of hygiene in laundry room, pathogenic and potentially pathogenic microorganisms in laundry rooms, disinfectant effect of washing, criteria for hygiene. s. - pathogenic and potentially pathogenic microorganisms in the air and hospital environment. - Preparation of water, technological water and sewage, ecology legislation, basic methods of cleaning and analysing sewage waters. - Food and air hygiene.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Students will be able to: – understand the meaning of epidemiology and connection between environment and health – analyze data on infectious and non-infectious diseases on local and global level. – knows to use epidemiological methods and different epidemiological data base. – to prepare a risk evaluation for origin and spreading of infectious disease and propose an adequate measure in case of danger and disease appearance and prepare procedures for control acquire general characteristics of microorganisms, procedures of disinfection and sterilization
