Objectives and competences

Student will: • identify physical, psychological and social needs of a patient in gynaecology, pregnant women and woman after childbirth; • Identify nursing care diagnosis in specific areas of gynaecology and obstetric nursing care; • Identify nursing care of patients with gynecological diseases, pregnant women, women and women after childbirth to solving current and potential nursing problems in the specific field of gynaecology and obstetric nursing care.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The course deals with protecting reproductive health care. Gynecological examination and diagnostic methods in gynecology. Physiology and disorders of the menstrual cycle. Reproductive medicine with focus on nursing care in assisted reproductive technologies. Special areas of gynecology and the characteristics of nursing care in: • artificial interruption of pregnancy; • inflammatory diseases of reproductive organs; • emergency conditions in gynecology; • disease changes in breast; • urinary incontinence; • pre-menopause and post-menopause. Gynecological oncology and nursing care of patients with malign condition in the reproductive area or breasts. Operations in gynecology and pre-operational and post-operational nursing care. Before pregnant and pre-natal health care. Anatomical and physiological changes in pregnancy. Prenatal diagnostics, genetic counseling. Pathological pregnancy, diseases in pregnancy. Conducting normal pregnancy and the course of normal delivery. Abnormal birth and irregular birth. The main characteristics of nursing care before, during and after childbirth. Puerperium and the special treatment of women in the postnatal period. Clinical training: • Get involved in the organization of nursing care in the ward and take part in regular morning and afternoon shifts of a nursing and health service team. • Work in a nursing and health service team. • Admission and dismissal or transfer of a gynaecological patient, pregnant patient, women in the postpartum period and newborn baby. • Utilize theoretical knowledge in the clinical practice, acknowledging individual patient’s needs and considering the available resources in the ward • Implementation of nursing interventions according to the nursing care standards • Diagnostic-therapeutic interventions in the gynaecology and obstetrics • Preparation of a patient for an gynaecological examination • Psycho-physical preparation of a patient for an operation procedure • Support during the delivery • Health education in specific topics • Consideration of a patient’s case (case study) applying the process method

Student will be able to: • Explain the importance of health promotion for reproductive health care protection, and explain the specifics of women, pregnant women, obstetrics • Provide nursing care in women, pregnant women and obstetrics before, during and after surgery • Provide interventions of nursing care in a simulated and clinical environment.
