Objectives and competences

Students: • Acquires the area of preparing the patient for a surgery, monitoring during surgery and monitoring the patient after surgery. • Learns the pathophysiology and treatment of diseases in special areas of surgery and oncology • Develops skills to perform special nursing interventions.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Nursing care of a patient who needs a surgical control due to pathophysiological disturbances, healing and rehabilitation. • Preparing a patient to the operation. • Nursing care of patient during and after the operation. • Liquid and electrolytic balance, food and its influence. • Nursing the patient during transfusion of blood and blood products (administration, monitoring and recognizing complication). • Nursing the patient with pain. Nursing the patient with wounds and drainage. • Nursing care of a neurosurgical patient with neurosurgery diseases of the neurological system, who needs surgical treatment. • Rehabilitation of patients with emphasis to rehabilitation of neurosurgical patients. • Nursing care of the patient with vascular disease and vascular surgery • Nursing the patient before, during and after open heart surgery. • Nursing care of patients with burns and recustructive surgery • Nursing the patient with multitravma injures. • Nursing the travma patient Nursing the patient after ortopedic surgery and ortopedic surgery • Nursing the patient with abdominal pathology and abdominal surgery. • Nursing the patient after urological surgery. • Nursing the patient with thoracic surgical pathology and thoracic surgery. • Nursing the patient after ear, nose and throat surgery. • Special eye treatments and nursing the patient. • The development and importance of oncological nursing. • General oncology (genetics and pathology and treatment of cancer) • Risk factors and primary and secondary prevention of cancer. • Oncology Nursing: specificity of surgical patient. • Nursing care of patients with systemic cancer treatment. • Control of adverse effects of cytotoxic agents, hormonal therapy and biological medicines. • Safe handling with agents. • Basic nursing care in teleradio terapy and brahiradio terapy. • Protection again stradio active radiation. • Relieve pain in cancer patients. • Palliative care of cancer patients. • Nursing care of a donor. • Nursing the patient after transplantation of organs. • Learning special nursing interventions in a simulated clinical environment

Learning and teaching methods

Lectures: with the active participation of students (explanation, discussion, evidence based learning, questions, cases) Seminar: project work – case study, teamwork, critical thinking models, discussion, feedback) Individual consultation: (discussion, additional explanation, specific questions) Clinical work: learning in simulation enwirowment (simulation-based education), performing of interventions, critical thinking methods, reflective thinking, using video tutorials, discussions, and case studies)

Students will be able to: • Explain the nursing care and treatment of the patient in the surgical field • Describe specifics characteristic of diseases and treatment in all special areas of surgery • Understood the nursing care of • Develop a nursing care plan and interpret the specific patient treatment in a specialized field of surgery • Perform special nursing interventions and adapt them according to the specifics treatment of the patient in the surgical and oncology field
