Content (Syllabus outline)

NURSING CARE Mental health. Development of nursing care of patients with mental disorder. The role of the nurse in nursing care of patients with mental disorder. Team work and multidisciplinary connection of individual organisational units. Importance of communication in nursing care of patients with mental disorder. Therapeutic community. Organization of psychiatric service. Ethical aspects of nursing care of patients with mental disorder. Use of methods and models in nursing care of patients with mental disorders. Admission and discharge of patients with metal disorder. Nursing care of patients with aggressive behaviour. Nursing care of patients with bipolar affective disorder. Nursing care of patients with depressive disorder. Nursing care of patients with mania. Nursing care of patients with schizophrenia. Nursing care of patients with eating disorder. Nursing care of patients with intellectual disability. Nursing care of elderly people with mental disorder. Nursing care of suicidal patients. Nursing care of alcohol addicts. PSYCHIATRY Historical development of psychiatry. Definition of mental health. Preventive activities in psychiatry. Legal aspects of psychiatry. General signs and symptoms of mental disorders. Basic characteristics of organic mental disorder. Mental disorders in advanced years. Abuse and dependence on psychoactive substances Schizophrenia, depressive disorders. Behaviouural disorders. Suicide and suicidal behaviour. Neurotic, stress-related and somatoform disorders. Personality disorders. Intellectual disability. Mental disorders in the developmental period. Treatment of forensic patients. Treatment of psychiatric patients. CLINICAL TRAINING Participation in a multidisciplinary team and care for the patient with mental disorder. Nursing care in the psychiatric field. Utilization of clinical and school-related nursing documentation. Reflective writing. Ethical aspect of work in treating patients with mental disorders.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

The student will be able to: - describe various mental disorders, etiopathogenesis, clinical picture, diagnostic tests, treatment and risk factors. - determine, on the basis of identified needs for nursing care, current and potential nursing problems in patients, plan and implement appropriate nursing interventions. - develop a humane attitude towards a patient with a mental disorder and influences on antistigmatization.
