Objectives and competences

The objective of this course is to acquaint students with the basic principles of pedagogic and adult education. The student: • acquires basic pedagogical concepts and forms a critical relation towards them, • gets to know the characteristics and understands the complexity of the educational process, • develops an interest in and compatibility with educational work and the ability to transfer theoretical knowledge into practice.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Insight into subject, similar disciplines, relations between them and applicability of the subject. • Definition of basic pedagogical concepts. • Education as an intentional and functional activity, goals, and principles of education. • Education in term of human relations. • Factors of education (family, preschool education, school, special education). • The concept of adulthood. Specific of pedagogical work with adults • Pedagogical communication and leadership in education.

Learning and teaching methods

• Higher education lectures, • the discussion method, • the problem-solving method, • cooperative and individual learning.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and Understanding: On completion of this course, the student: • understands education as an intentional and functional activity, • knows and understands the specifics of education in different educational environments, • knows the concept of adulthood and the specifics of pedagogical work with adults, • critically evaluates and compares theoretical concepts and uses these on practical examples and in planning his/her own practice.

Prerequisits

Prerequisites for taking the course: None. Conditions for prerequisites: Each of the mentioned obligations must be assessed with a passing grade. Active participation in a seminar and passing grade of seminar work are required for taking the written exam.
