Objectives and competences
The objectives and competences achieved by the student include the following:
- understand the basics and development of the healthcare information systems as well as their importance in the field of healthcare and nursing,
- learn about the use of information and communication systems in health and nursing,
- get acquainted and is aware of the importance of the security in healthcare informatics,
- use basic informatics tools to perform simple data processing and analysis.
Content (Syllabus outline)
The content of this course includes the following topics:
- Healthcare and nursing informatics.
- Information systems in healthcare and nursing.
- Information and communication technology in health and nursing.
- Intelligent systems.
- Using artificial intelligence in healthcare.
- Informatics as a supporting tool in healthcare oriented research.
- Practical use of presentation, descriptive and statistical inference tools in healthcare.
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures (auditory and e-lectures), practice, individual work.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
After the completion of the course the student should be able to:
- assess the quality of the healthcare information system,
- know the basics of documentation needed to implement the information systems in healthcare,
- suggest solutions to enhance security and quality assurance in healthcare information systems,
- compare different levels of electronic health records implementation,
- efficiently use the word processing and data analytics software.

Prerequisits
Prerequisites for taking the course:
This subject can be selected by all enrolled students of Master's degree study programme Nursing care or by any other student, which choose to select the subject as an elective course.
Conditions for fulfilling study obligations:
Active participation in laboratory work and project preparatoin.
