Objectives and competences
Students must become familiar with decision-making models and the Slovenian Index (SloIn). They should understand the operation of the Healthcare Dispatch Service (DSZ) and accurately position its role within the emergency medical services (EMS) system in Slovenia. They will gain additional knowledge in:
• Receiving emergency medical assistance calls.
• Determining the level of urgency using SloIn.
• Selecting the appropriate EMS team based on the level of urgency.
• Procedures established for extraordinary events.
Content (Syllabus outline)
The purpose of the course is to familiarize students with the operation of the medical dispatch service and its related processes. Students will learn about basic workflows (information gathering, communication, documentation, technical support, quality management) and procedures for handling extraordinary events.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Upon completing this course, the student will be familiar with:
• Different decision-making systems in the medical dispatch service.
• The structure of the Slovenian Index (SloIn).
• Methods for gathering and the range of necessary information from patients/callers for effective call management.
• Dispatch cards and criteria according to SloIn.
• Prioritization according to SloIn.
• Assessment of priority appropriateness and the necessary conditions for changing the priority.
• Quality assessment criteria in the medical dispatch service.
• Procedures for responding to extraordinary events.
