Objectives and competences
1. Understanding, synthesis and evaluation of basic theoretical and practical principles of management of most important and commonest emergency situations in children.
2. Learning the key skills in basic life support of neonate, infant and older child as well as the use of instruments, important in management of most severely ill children.
3. Comprehension and evaluation of advanced life support of neonate, infant and older child.
Content (Syllabus outline)
Lectures:
Students will learn theoretical bases of most important emergency situations in childhood, pathophysiology as well as diagnostics and treatment. Lectures will also cover important emergency situations of individual organ systems.
Seminars:
The method for preparing students to clinical education and individual work.
Clinical work:
Students are going to learn the practical principles and approach to treatment of children in most important emergency situations. In addition, students will get the key skills in resuscitation and basic life support of neonates, infants and older children as well as in usage of most important instruments in emergency situations. Finally, they will become acquainted with triage of most severely ill children and with principles of emergency work in primary and tertiary level.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Knowledge and understanding:
On completion of this course the student will be able to:
1. Discuss about basic theoretical and practical principles of management of most important and commonest emergency situations in children and their evaluation.
2. Demonstration of key skills in basic life support of neonate, infant and older child as well as the practical use of instruments, important in management of most severely ill children.
3. Evaluate in the field of advanced life support and advanced principles of emergency treatment of neonate, infant and older child.
