Objectives and competences
The student will:
-acquire knowledge to support them in working with people with of intellectual disabilities in a person-centred manner,
- develop a knowledge of the changing patterns of physical and mental health among people with intellectual disabilities,
- Recognising impact of having a person with intellectual disabilities as family members'
-familiarize with the work and role of the nurse in the field of intellectual disabilities,
- familiarize with assessment of physical and mental health abilities and needs of people with intellectual disabilities.

Knowledge and understanding:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
-critically discuss the key characteristics of intellectual disabilities,
-analyse key concepts in the field of intellectual disabilities,
-show a critical understanding of the nature of the work of a nurse in the field of intellectual disabilities,
-show that he/she understands the broader role of the nurse in supporting people with intellectual disabilities and their family.
