Objectives and competences
The objective of this course is:
- get insight into basic painting terms,
- get insight into basic painting skills,
- learn to transpose the observed into a painting record and “transfer” the object into a painting and symbolic dimension,
- to develop the student’s manual painting skills,
- to teach the student to transfer his ideas into the artistic expression,
- to empower the student for the valuation of art works,
- to acquaint the student with the painting art production and fine art styles in different historical periods.
The student should be able of:
- observation and artistic evaluation of the object,
- realistic presentation of the selected object,
- abstract presentation of the artistic content,
- own artistic creative approach in the presentation of a specified motive,
- correct use of painting materials,
- develop methods of researching problems and develop productive thinking in solving them.
Content (Syllabus outline)
- Rules of painting interpretation of the visible.
- Approach to the structuring of the painting
- Features of the drawing as the base for the construction of the painting; the difference between a study drawing and a drawing as the base of the image.
- From a realistic to abstract approach in construction of the painting.
- Painting of the concreteness in the space.
- Abstraction of objects and construction of non-mimetic painting.
- Realisation of individual painting ideas.
- Means of expression in painting.
- Colour and form in painting composition.
- Colour incidence, colour parameters.
- Colour relation and colour change by mixing colours.
- Light as a source of voluminousness and colourfulness.
- Understanding of visual and artistic space.
- Creative interpretation of painting - colour problems, where the tone gradation principle and the principle of colour segmentation touch.
- Local tone, modelling and colour modulation.
- Illusionistic procedures in painting.
- Semestral exhibition.
Learning and teaching methods
- individual work with a student,
- work in smaller groups,
- use of the explanation, dialogue and discussion,
- presentation of practical painting skills,
- review and analysis of art works created by masters of classic and contemporary painting art,
- practical work in the form of exercises.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
The student:
- recognises an object in its narrative, colour, voluminous and material proportion and transforms it into a painting symbol,
- recognises the organisation of space and attains spatial relations on a two-dimensional surface,
- finds adequate samples of considered problem in written and internet sources and uses them creative at work,
- gets insight into reality`s inner structure,
- realises the individual sensibility,
- defines approaches to develop one`s own art language,
- transforms a visual motif into a painting subject-matter,
- implements interdisciplinary pooling of his knowledge,
- works creatively in different fields of visualisation,
- uses different painting techniques,
- possesses manual skill for using different painting tools,
- uses different working forms and methods, is able to apply the skills in similar processes and other technical fields.
