Objectives and competences
Objectives of the course are:
- To acquaint students with theory of arts;
- To teach them how to reflect theoretically practical experience;
- To present analytical thinking forms, which are based on surveys of fine art as well as other forms of art;
- To acquaint students with various theories of art and aesthetics, which relate to the fine art creation;To encurage questioning the nature, meaning and significance of artistic activity and its relationship with the social reality.
Competences: knowledge and mastery of artistic concepts that within the curricula of fine art curses in primary and secondary schools constitute the basic principles and minimum standards of knowledge in the field of fine arts.
Content (Syllabus outline)
The course in addition to fine art theory in the narrow sense (analysis of fundamental fine art concepts) also includes a brief introduction to the theory of image and selected chapters from the history of aesthetics.
After the initial discussion on differences between verbal and visual (fine art) languages, students are acquainted with basic fine art concepts.
The following are the basics of colour theory, processes of perception, psychological and symbolic aspects of colour and their practical application.
The course also includes historical treatment of the development of both fine arts as well as the accompanying art theory in terms of the impact of new discoveries and research in other disciplines, especially philosophy (history of basic aesthetic concepts).
Seminar work: analysis of the key elements of chosen artistic work.
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures with visuals, practical and seminar work, view and analysis of the top achievements of classical and contemporary (fine) arts, individual consulltations, independent study of literature.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
On completion of this course the student will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of basic notions from fine art theory;
- analyze in-depth works of art and theoretical texts on art;
- apply gained knowledge in practical work and other study subjects.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
Skill of observing, analysing and understanding artworks;
Ability to execute theory models in practice.
