Objectives and competences

Objectives: To introduce the student with different possibilieties and the procedures of drawing, which she/he can use with other art media, in his own artistic praxis and in his pedagogical work. Student is competent to: - recognise works of old masters and contemporary artists in the field of drawing, - recognise and use different ways of using the line (outline, countour, gesture, silhuete, modelled drawing), - use the knowledge of drawing and using the geometrical forms as a starting point by drawing the head and torso, - construct the head using the principle: from the whole to the detail, - use the knowledge of human proportions at drawing the head, the torso and hands, - use the knowledge in anatomy at drawing the head,the torso and hands, - to understand the significance of constructing form based on spatial plans, - use the tone (chiaro/scuro) in creating the illusion of space on the artistic plane, - use and combine different types of lines and ways of drawing to construct illusion of space performing the drawing.

Content (Syllabus outline)

- Introduction into the drawing, - drawing through the works of old masters a,nd contemporary artists, - copy as the means of learning to draw, - the meaning of content and form in drawing, - different lines and their function (outline, silhuete, contour, blind contour, continous contour, modified contour, gesture), - different ways of drawing and use of drawing materials and techniques, - drawing of a head as a study, - construction of a human head from the whole to the detail through the use of perspective knowledge of space planes, proportion and basics of anatomy, - study of the human skull, - drawing odf the head after antique plaster casts, - life drawing after life model’s head and torso using accurate observation and sighting, - use of line and tone as the basic fine art elements of drawing, - ways of developing the sensibility of the line, - constructional and anatomical studies of hands and palms, - from the head to the portrait - physiognomy and expression, - individual approaches to portrait drawing.

- Lectures, - studio work.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Student: - knows the basics of anatomy and proportions of human head, torso and hands, - understands the principles of perspective, - understands and uses the sightseeing method, - is able to construct the scull, human head and torso on the basis of geometric forms, - understands and uses space plans in the drawing of the human head, - differentiates between planimetric and stereometric ways of drawing and is able connect both in study drawing, - has the knowledge of classical and contemporary artists and their drawings, - is paying attention to physiognomy and expression, - has the knowledge of different ways and means of using the line in drawings, - connects theory and practice in the pedagogical context.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

Drawing studies serve the students as a preparation for other art courses, such as painting, sculpture, graphics etc.

Prerequisits

Obligated student activity in the study process. Succesful performed exercises during study process acording with corections of the professor are obligatory for accesion to the exam.
