Objectives and competences
Objectives of the course are:
- To acquaint students with various theories of art and aesthetics, which relate to the fine art creation;
- To present systematization of tools for defining fine art forms and their critical application;
- To encurage questioning the nature, meaning and significance of artistic activity and its relationship with the social reality.
Competences: knowledge and mastery of artistic concepts that within the curricula of fine art curses in primary and secondary schools constitute the basic principles and minimum standards of knowledge in the field of fine arts.
Content (Syllabus outline)
The course in addition to fine art theory in the narrow sense (analysis of fundamental fine art concepts) also includes analysis of visual perception and selected chapters from modern and contemporary aesthetics.
For the analysis of morphological and other complex processes in fine art is necessary knowledge of basic principles of fine art thinking.
Fort his purpose the course acquaints students with the processes of visual perception, the main means of visual communication, and the methods of determining the visual meaning. By this it highlights the importance of a particular cultural context for fine art creation, visual perception and communication. The course outlines also the status of images and the visual in history – including the impact of new technologies on the perception of reality.
Seminar work: formal fine art analysis of chosen artwork; critical analysis of contemporary fine art practices
Learning and teaching methods
Lectures with visuals, practical and seminar work, view and analysis of the top achievements of modern and contemporary (fine) arts, individual consulltations, independent study of literature.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
On completion of this course the student will be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge about key theoretical discourses on art;
- analytically approach the evaluation and understanding of art;
- analyze in-depth works of art and critically examin theoretical texts on art;
- apply the gained knowledge in practice and in other study subjects.
Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes
Skill of observing, analysing and understanding artworks;
Building of an analytical and synthetic mechnism of terms.
