Objectives and competences

• Research and acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical competence for operation and understanding of importance of preschool period as a critical development period in the life of every individual. • Understanding and compare the preschool education in family and outside family, based on a historical insight and modern trends. • To explain the connection between early childhood and social context. • To recognize and distinguish the knowledge and skills required for stimulation of child's development. • Competent and professionally responsible creation of different bases for execution of preschool education in accordance with modern scientific establishments. • Advocate results of their own research or work.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Theoretical methodological aspects of preschool pedagogic as a science branch • Historical overview of development of preschool education idea. • Scientific and social foundations of modern preschool education (Position of children in the world and in our country, Children rights and their realization). • Early childhood and the social context (Social consciousness and the importance of preschool education; socialization of preschool children and its importance). • Family (family as primary community; the position and role in society and position of the child in family). • Curriculum for kindergarten in Slovenia (principles, goals, field of activity and possibilities for realization in praxis). • Visible and hidden curriculum in kindergarten. • Pedagogical aspects of quality in kindergarten. • Game - basic method of preschool education. Game theories. Good toy. • Educator of preschool children and his competences. • Consultants and their role in kindergarten. • Project work as learning model.

• integration of theory and practice in educational institutions, • the comprehensive development of a preschool child, • of preschool education as an important component of lifelong education, • the child's development from birth to school, • integration of family and institutional education, • independent and autonomous understanding of the processes of preschool education, • the historical development of preschool pedagogy and the development of a preschool child, • development of one's own professionalism and knowledge acquisition skill, • independent conduct of the research and presentation of its results.
