Student:
• evaluates research in early mathematics,
• assesses and argues solving contemporary topics in early mathematics,
• reasonable uses the virtual manipulatives, conceptual virtual games and applets in the preparation and implementation of early mathematics instruction.
Content (Syllabus outline)
Contemporary educational subjects in early mathematics. Integrative approach. Early mathematical concepts. Types of mathematical knowledge. Representations. Learning through gestures. Parental engagement.
Fruitful research areas in early mathematics teaching and learning. Early numeracy. Mathematical trajectories. Mathematical environment. Manipulatives. Mathematical abilities of preschool children.
ICT in preschool mathematics. Virtual manipulatives. Conceptual virtual games and applets.
Learning and teaching methods
• Interactive lectures,

• analyzing study cases,
• project work.
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Student:
• argues specific of early mathematics education,
• presents research areas in preschool mathematics education,
• criticaly evaluates and uses chosen computer applications that can scaffold conceptual mathematics in preschool education.
