Objectives and competences

Students: • Understand development of culture concepts in early childhood • Understand and identify stereotypes and prejudices related to different cultures • Analyse and understand different needs of children and parents in intercultural environment • Know, use and evaluate methods and strategies for teaching in intercultural environment • Analyse, plan and evaluate possibilities for cooperation with local environment for the purpose of intercultural education • Use ICT in intercultural education

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Understanding of the concepts of culture and interculturality in preschool period • Stereotypes and prejudices • Positive approaches to different cultures for preschool teachers • Identifying children and parents’ needs from different ethnical and cultural groups while working in preschool institution • Inclusion of children from various ethnical and cultural groups in preschool education • Methods for teaching intercultural education • Cooperation with local environment • ICT use in intercultural education • Research of good practice and solutions in educational system for the intercultural education

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Knowledge and understanding: • knows basic concepts on multicultural education; • is able to analyse stereotypes and prejudices and prepare proposals how to cope with discrimination • can recognize and adapt work to children from various cultural background; • knows the examples of best practice in multicultural education and knows how to apply them into practice; • use and develops various strategies for work with immigrant parents.
