Objectives and competences

The aim of this course is to get acquainted with pedagogical approaches and conceptsand placement of pedagogical sciences in relation to Practical Training. The next objective is to form the critical association into the educational reality in daily life. The study subject is designed with the purpose that elementary education students get the essential insight into the sicence of pedagogy and elaborates the basic concepts within it. The objective of the course is to equip students to be able to identify, analyze and find solutions to the various specific situations they will face as teachers. The purpose is to develop students' general and transferable competences, which they upgrade in specific subjects as they continue their study process.

Content (Syllabus outline)

The subject as elementary concept addresses the education with the focus on: - historical overview of pedagogy as a science; - basic concepts (such as education, curriculum, educational plan, etc.) and characteristics of pedagogy; - pedagogical theories; - pedagogical disciplines; - the educational system in the Republic of Slovenia; - basic characteristics and factors of education; - organizing of teaching; - evaluation in education; - teamwork; - roles of teachers, teachers' autonomy (cooperation with parents, managing the class, discipline etc.); - teachers' competencies; - role of students; - parenting styles; - alternative education approaches; - inclusion of children with special needs in basic school; - the basic definition of andragogy.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

On completion of this course, the student will be able to • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the historical development of pedagogy; Know and understand the educational system in the RS; • Know and understand the tasks and aims of the educational process; • Know and understand the characteristics of education concerning different educational environments; • Recognize different roles and competencies of the teacher and adapt behaviours to different roles; Communication skills in educational relations; Organising and solving educational problems;
