Objectives and competences

• Becomes familiar with basics of Didactics and knows how to transfer theoretical knowledge into pedagogical practice. • Explains the characteristics of teaching in the first and second educational period. • Develops interest and capabilities for teaching work (teaching, directing, and leading). • It analyses the lessons according to the prepared criteria. • Become familiar with the use of digital technologies during instruction as a means to support learning. • Knows how to write down the elements of annual and daily lesson plans. • Knows how to write down the goals and contents. • Knows how to select appropriate teaching methods and manage the class. • Knows how to define descriptors to form the descriptive mark. • Knows how to prepare a written examination.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• An introduction to Didactics. Definition of basic didactic terms. • Planning of educational process. A teacher’s annual, weekly, daily lesson plan. Planning of goals, contents and learning tools. Articulation of a lesson. Specification of a lesson in the first and second triennium of a nine-year elementary school. • Carrying out a lesson: Teaching methods and forms of learning. A teacher’s role during a lesson. • Other teacher’s roles: class teacher, teacher mentor, teamwork, cooperation with parents. Classroom management. • Pupils’ activities during lesson. • Communication between teachers and pupils during a lesson. • Individual work of pupils at home and in school. • Estimation and analysis of a lesson. Knowledge examining and grading. Knowledge examining and grading in the first and second triennium of a elementary school. • The teacher's monitoring and analysis of his or her own work.

Higher education lecture, the method of discourse, problem solving, microteaching, cooperative learning, flipped learning.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

• Knows how to define basic didactic terms and explains the correlation between them. • Describes and analyzes articulation stages. • Describes and analyses different roles of a teacher when working with pupils. • Explains the difference between teaching methods and forms. • Explains the difference between knowledge examining and grading. • Evaluates the importance and ways of lesson monitoring and assessment.
