Objectives and competences
The objective of this course is to:
• understand musical theory and transfer it into musical practice
• master musical elements with the help of musical activities, simple modes of forming music, and structure of simple musical forms,
• interpret music and design aesthetical musical performances,
• become accustomed to reading and understanding musical literature independently, learning to use professional and literary language.
Content (Syllabus outline)
• Fundamentals of musical theory and their transfer to musical practice.
• From musical experiences to understanding musical elements: rhythm, melody, dynamics, tempo.
• Musical structure and musical forms: relations among musical elements, harmony, polyphony, texture, and simple musical forms.
• From sound and tone qualities to movement, rhythm and dance: moving to music, action songs, songs with singing and dancing.
• Singing, harmonizing, playing melodic instruments: singing technique, playing melodies, creating melodic accompaniment.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
• identify, read, write and perform simple musical elements, basics and structures,
• use acquired knowledge to solve simple musical problems and reading musical literature,
• recognise musical principles in practical examples,
• use information technology,
• read and perform simple unknown musical contents, and create rhythmical, moving, and melodical accompaniments, and consider aesthetical performance.

Completion of the colloquium is a prerequisite for taking the written exam.
