Objectives and competences

The objective of this course is to introduce evaluation and analysis of works of art made by artists and children to the students and enable them to comprehend the relation between art contents, form and its elements which are all expressed in an art problem, through practical art making. Care for correct use of the Slovenian language in written communication (seminar).

Content (Syllabus outline)

Artistic evaluation and visual-formal and substantive analysis of works of art from the World Treasury of Fine Arts. Tours of art exhibitions of contemporary art practices and analysis of exhibited works of art, guided exhibitions with elements of museum pedagogy. View exhibitions of children's artwork. Artistic practice: individual interpretation and realization of the selected artwork with emphasis on the art problem. Practicing art on the premises of the gallery with an emphasis on individual art processing of the selected art work.

Learning and teaching methods

University lectures in which students engage actively (explanation, discussion, questions, examples), lectures in museums and galleries in which students engage actively, practical art making (individual art tasks).

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: to define the parameters of a formal art analysis of a work of art, substantiate the basic visual content or formative purpose of all visual elements, define the use and expressiveness of visual elements in children's art products, to explain the basic principles of museum-gallery pedagogy.

Intended learning outcomes - transferable/key skills and other attributes

On completing this course the student should be able to: explain the expressiveness of art elements in a work of art as well as a child's work, identify the basic means of art composition in a work of art as well as a child's work, plan and execute a visit to art exhibition and implement elements of museum pedagogy.

No entry conditions. Condition for the exam is successfully completed exercises and positively evaluated portfolio and seminar work.
