Objectives and competences

The objective of this course is to provide students with fundamental musical didactic knowledge and use it in the planning, preparation, organization and implementation of musical lessons in the first and second cycle of primary school. The students articulate precise teaching preparations and learning process, taking into account the basic didactic starting points, with particular emphasis on the aesthetics of musical performance and rhetorical and lecturing abilities, using age-appropriate musical terminology.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Definition of the concept, role and subject. Music and child’s development. Learning musical thinking. Motivation. Learning environment and teaching organisation. Individualization of lessons. Curriculum planning: goals, contents, musical activities. Teaching planning. Detailed lesson plans and their realisations with special emphasis on the aesthetics of musical performance, as well as rhetorical and lecturing capabilities. Introduction to musical literacy activities, musical activities and content. Selected topics (music teaching and learning methods, learning a new song, playing musical instruments for children, listening to music, creativity, musical didactic games, a musical fairy tale, movement and dance, folk music). Research activities.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of children's musical development and musical thinking, • identify and explain elements of macro and micro planning for musical lessons, • use the acquired knowledge for a practical application in the field of music education, • skilfully communicate and express themselves musically (instrumentally, singing, movement and dance), • use information technology, • solve musically-didactical problems in various contexts.
