Objectives and competences

Students will be able to: - Apply innovative ways of learning about beneficial micro-organisms using innovative learning technologies such as quizzes, digital learning content, online learning tools, - Evaluate the importance of beneficial microorganisms in the environment and in nutrition. - Explain the role of beneficial microorganisms and their mechanisms of action.

Content (Syllabus outline)

Introducing and using innovative ways of learning about beneficial microorganisms through innovative learning technologies such as quizzes, digital learning content, online learning tools. Beneficial microorganisms, probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, postbiotics, biotherapeutics, live therapeutic agents and their influence on the human microbiota. Role of microorganisms in food fermentation, vitamin production and production of other beneficial substances. Mechanisms of action of beneficial microorganisms: production of bacteriocins, organic acids, short-chain fatty acids, exopolysaccharides, vitamins. Antimicrobial efficiency of beneficial microbes, competitive exclusion of pathogens, direct in indirect metabolism regulation.

- Explain the use of innovative ways of learning and teaching through new technologies and digital content, - Explaining the importance of beneficial microbes in the envrionment and in nutrition, - Differentiating between beneficial microorganisms, probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, live therapeutic agents, postbiotics, - Defining the role of beneficial microorganisms in food fermentation, - Defining the role of beneficial microorganisms in vitamin production and production of other beneficial substances
