Objectives and competences
The aim of the practical training placement is to enable students to gain professional experience, apply and further develop their knowledge in an authentic workplace environment, and develop subject-specific and transferable competences that support successful professional and career development.
Subject-Specific Competences
Students:
- apply theoretical and methodological knowledge from their field of study to the solution of practical professional problems;
- integrate academic knowledge with the requirements and challenges of the professional environment;
- apply professional methods, procedures, technologies, and tools relevant to their field of study;
- analyse, evaluate, and propose solutions to specific professional challenges;
- understand the organisational, operational, and professional aspects of an organisation’s activities;

Content (Syllabus outline)
The practical training placement enables students to gain experience in an authentic workplace environment and to apply, evaluate and further develop the knowledge acquired during their studies. The placement promotes collaboration between the academic environment and industry, the public sector, research organisations, and non-governmental organisations.
During the placement, students:
- become familiar with the organisation, its mission, operational processes, and organisational culture;
- participate in professional tasks and projects related to their field of study;
- analyse and address specific professional challenges;
- apply contemporary methods, approaches, and tools;
- collaborate with their workplace mentor and other professionals;
- develop communication, organisational, leadership, and teamwork skills;
- gain insight into career opportunities and the requirements of the professional environment;
- reflect on the experience gained and its contribution to their further professional and personal development.

- understand the relationship between theoretical knowledge acquired during their studies and its application in professional practice;
- describe the methods, procedures, technologies, and tools used in professional work;
- understand the importance of professional ethics, accountability, and quality standards in the workplace.

Prerequisits
The course is open to students enrolled in a second-cycle study programme who are regularly enrolled and have progressed to a higher year of study (including students in a higher year or in their graduation year).
Students may undertake the practical training placement at any time during their studies, provided that the placement is undertaken in a field relevant to their study programme.
In order to attend practical training, students are required to:
- undergo a medical examination prior to commencing the practical training placement (If no more than 60 months have elapsed since the preventive medical examination completed during the first year of undergraduate studies, a new medical examination is not required. In such cases, students must provide a certificate confirming completion of the examination, issued by the healthcare provider where the examination was conducted. If the preventive medical examination was completed more than five years previously, students are required to undergo a new medical examination. The associated costs shall be borne by the student unless otherwise agreed with the host organisation.);
- complete occupational health and safety training in accordance with applicable legislation (provided by the employer); and
- have insurance coverage for occupational accidents and pension and disability insurance, where required by applicable regulations (provided by the employer).
Additional information on implementation and assessment The course is assessed on the pass/fail basis.
To successfully complete the course, the student must submit the following to the coordinator of practical trainings / head of the study programme (as designated by the respective faculty) no later than one month after completing the practical training placement:
- a confirmation issued by the host organisation verifying the completion of the practical training placement, including the period of placement, the signature of the workplace mentor, and the signature of the authorised representative of the organisation
- a concise report (up to 2 pages outlining the knowledge, skills and competences related to the field of study that the student acquired during the practical training placement..
