Objectives and competences

The objective of this course is for students to be able to demonstrate uderstanding of basic principles of electrical apparatus and devices to analyze components of electrical devices and to design new devices.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Operation of electrical power system elements: presentation of electrical power system elements, transient phenomenon in electrical power system, theory of symmetrical and non-symmetrical failures calculation. • Theory of electrical contacts: physical basics, contact resistance, rebound of contacts, thermal load contacts, electrodynamics overload of contacts. • Electrical arc and transient phenomenon at switching moment: static and dynamic theory of electrical arc, method of non-contact and non-arc switching, existing and new manner electrical arc extinguishing. • Basics for the operation and construction of electrical apparatus and devices: design and development of new products, theoretical and practical construction with the use of new contemporary methods, busbars, switching devices, indoor and outdoor switching devices, equipment for measured and protection electrical circuits, existing state of switchgear area and vision for the future. • Projection: projecting and technical documentation, projection principles, making of project.
