Objectives and competences

The course aims to familiarize students with citizen development and the citizen developer and present the development process of citizen developed applications achieving appropriate quality using low-code/no-code development platforms.

Content (Syllabus outline)

• Introduction to citizen development and the citizen developer skills: purpose, needs, and goals. • The importance of citizen development in the context of digital transformation. • Citizen developed applications within organizations and shadow IT: managing and leading citizen development. • Technological support for citizen development. • A low-code/no-code application development approach: from needs to system requirements. • Low-code/no-code development tools and platforms • Ensuring the quality of citizen developed applications using low-code/no-code development platform.

Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding

On completion of this course the student will be able to • Understand and define the concept of citizen development and citizen developer. • Understand the importance of citizen development in the context of digital transformation. • Understand the benefits and risks of citizen developed applications within organizations. • Design and develop an application using a low-code/no-code development platform. Transferable/Key skills and other attributes: • Communication skills: the oral defense of the project, formulation of requirements for the project development • Organizational skills: Application development using a low-code/no-code development platform with little or no programming code • Teamwork: project collaboration and division of tasks • Problem solving: converting needs into application requirements
