Objectives and competences
• students explain the composition and processes in the Earth's atmosphere
• students explain the sequence of events that led to paleoclimate change
• students describe and explain anthropogenically accelerated climate change
• students analyze spatial databases of climate variables
• students use climate databases in the GIS environment
Content (Syllabus outline)
• Earth atmosphere developement and its properties
• Paleoclimate and paleoclimate change
• Anthropogenic causes of climate change
• Effects of climate change on humans and other organisms
• Climate databases (PaleoClim, Worldclim, CHELSA, etc.)
• Applying spatial climate data in the GIS environment
• Case studies of climate change effects spatiall analysis in terestrial and marine environments
Learning and teaching methods
• Lectures
• Computer-based exercises
Intended learning outcomes - knowledge and understanding
Knowledge and understanding:
• students connect geological, geographical, biological and ecological content related to the processes that transform the Earth's surface and thus affect the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere
• students use and analyze various spatial data in geographic information systems
• students identify key attributes of spatial analyses and use the appropriate tools and prepare cartographic results
• students perform a basic analysis of environmental impacts using relevant GIS tools and input data
