The Leon Štukelj U​niversity Sports Center was opened for students and staff at the University of Maribor in June 1995. In February 2000 it was named after our Olympian Leon Štukelj, who cut the ribbon at the symbolic reopening ceremony. On the occasion of his 100th birthday (in November 1998), a bust of him was erected in the gallery of the hall.

The University Sports Hall has the following facilities:
  • Large hall (34.60 m x 55.60 m, 1898 m2 net area), can be divided into three sectors and allows the implementation of various sports: volleyball, basketball, badminton, handball, football and table tennis;
  • Martial arts hall (113 m2), allows the implementation of martial arts, such as aikido, karate and judo, as well as physical training and yoga;
  • Aerobics and dance hall (113 m2), intended for aerobics, dance and rhythmics;
  • Squash hall (two rooms of 125 m2 each);
  • Fitness hall (two rooms, a total of 130 m2);
  • Climbing wall City Wall (160 m2);
  • Sauna (dry Finnish sauna for 6 people).
The accompanying infrastructure comprises eight changing rooms with toilets for athletes and eight cabinets for teachers, coaches, and judges. A small lecture hall with 20 seats and a large lecture hall with 80 seats are available for the implementation of the theoretical part of the pedagogical process. Tribunes with over 800 seats and stands in the gallery are intended for spectators.

 ​National mobility

​National mobility enables students to complete one semester of study at another Slovenian university, i.e. the University of Ljubljana, the University of Primorska or the University of Nova Gorica.​​

 Participation in Projects

For the participation in projects at individual faculties of the University of Maribor students should contact the c​ourse coordinator or the intended mentor/supervisor o​​f their ​final work​. For more opportunities to participate in projects, you can turn to the international organisation DEM​​​OLA​, which encourages participation in projects between university students and companies, both locally and internationally.​​​​​

 UM Student Council

​The UM Student Council (ŠS UM) deals with problems related to students, is engaged in their well-being, and committed to the study quality. The ŠS UM consists of representatives of individual faculties, who equally represent all members of the university. It works on the principle "From students to students". In​ addition to participating in bodies, giving, and defending student opinions, they also prepare various extracurricular activities with the aim of spending quality extracurricular time and encouraging socializing among students. High-profile projects include:

  • UM Student raft competition,
  • University sports league for the UM champion,
  • Aerobics marathon,
  • UM Blood donation campaigns,
  • Health Week,
  • Collecting sweets and toys.​

For several academic years, the University Sports League for the Champion of the UM, which takes place at the Leon Štukelj University Sports Center has been organized and is intended for all students at the University of Maribor. Student teams from individual faculties can compete in football, basketball, and volleyball, while female students compete in volleyball. Competitions take place from November to April. Join us and compete or simply cheer for your faculty!​​

During the Lent Festival, just before the summer and before the end of the summer exam period, a rowing competition of student teams on the Drava River is being organized. An important part of the competition is also gathering of students from the faculties of the University of Maribor, which is intended to relieve the burden on students during the exam period.

 Health Week

​Every year, the Student Council of the University of Maribor celebrates April 7, which is known as World Health Day. By participating in variety of events that take place throughout the week, students become aware of the importance of a healthy diet, regular sports activities and of the importance of taking care of themselves and their health.

 Blood donation at the UM

​Twice a year, under the slogan "Poženi srce, daruj kri! / Open your heart, donate blood!", the UM organizes blood donation campaigns, which encourage students to selflessly and in large numbers help people in need. Do not forget, in Slovenia someone needs blood every five minutes, so open your heart and donate blood, you too!

​The event has been organized for several years in a row, as the UM believes it is especially important for students to relax and get a new incentive and motivation to cope with student obligations. The aerobics marathon includes sever​al exercises that last all afternoon until late in the evening.

 Collecting sweets and toys

​In the festive December, a time of happiness and joy, the UM also remembers those who do not have an easy life. For this purpose, they organize collecting of toys and sweets for children from socially disadvantaged families. The UM cooperates with the “Zveza prijateljev mladine​ Maribor" The Friends of youth Maribor, which organizes Christmas gifting of children.
