Why turn to a tutor?

Because they have extensive experience of successful studying.

Tutors have their own experience of studying successfully at university. As students who may have overcome similar challenges to you, they can give you valuable insights and advice that will be useful to you.

You will receive individual help.

They can offer you customised help tailored to your specific needs and challenges. This is particularly important for students who need to study with adjustments. We recommend that you get in touch with the tutor for students with disabilities at the university.

You will receive peer support and understanding.

Tutors are your peers. They are students who will accept and support you when they speak to you. They are committed to academic integrity and will act ethically and according to moral principles in their relationship with you.

You will learn and reinforce successful study strategies.

You can get useful advice on study strategies. They will benefit you throughout your studies and develop from good study habits to effective work skills.

Newcomers receive support to help them settle into the university environment.

You will receive support from tutors to help you adjust to the university environment. This will boost your academic confidence. This is especially important in the early stages of your studies when you are still familiarising yourself with the steps you need to take to function and succeed in an academic environment.

If they do not know the solution, they will guide you to it.

For more complex problems, tutors can refer you to relevant support and help contacts. This is to ensure that you get the help you need to successfully overcome the academic or other difficulties you are currently facing.
